Cat Years in Human Years

A common and popular legend is that for every 1 year that your cat is alive, it’s equivalent to seven human years. This is actually not true as cats age quicker in the first years that they’re alive.

There is no scientific way of actually comparing human and cat years. The comparisons are numbers that are widley accepted in the industry and taken as truth but it’s not an exact science.

We’ve created the chart below that will let you compare your cat’s current age to a human equivalent.

The table above shows a comparison of ages up to the age of 20 cats years but cats can live much longer than this. The oldest recorded cat age in written history is the grand old age of 39 cat years. Lucy was a Tabby cat born in Wales and lived from 1972 – 2011.

She must have seen a lot of different sights and explored her town in-depth over those years.

With medicine and our understanding of cats getting better as the years go by, cats are living longer than ever.
